The brief for this front garden renovation included creating space for an electric car charging point. To ensure it didn’t feel like a parking space we included a substantial planted section as well as using the length of the driveway to plant a border.
The Chelmer Valley brick laid across the slope, combined with a rustic sleeper retaining wall, ties the front garden to the back garden where we repeated these materials to give a sense of cohesion. The planting is packed with pollinator friendly species designed to give wildlife a long season of nectar provision as well as valuable winter seedheads and shelter.
Moth pollinated plants that release scent late in the day are planted around the seating that the family often uses on summer evenings.
We were keen for this garden to be a joy to pass by and contribute to the community.
